Brewing and Winemaking Links

Here we have collected links to resources for home brewers, winemakers, and mazers (mead-makers). All entries under the categories of suppliers and recipe sites were contributed by actual, real-live Wort Hogs, and in most cases include commentary on what is good (or not so good) about the site in question.

Jay's Brewing Supplies

Jay is a member of the Wort Hogs and has been in the business of selling homebrewing supplies since 2001. His shop is located near the intersection of Route 50 and Fairfax County Parkway (directions).

Within Somewhat Reasonable Driving Distance

Maryland Homebrew: Where I go if I need something immediately but Jay is closed. It's in frickin' Columbia MD, but the next closest I know of. [JT]

The Flying Barrel: A regional shop is in Frederick, MD which might be closer for JT if you go the Greenway to 15 N. I plan to buy Brehm Frozen Grapes from them in the fall. They are the exclusive/nearest eastcoast source for the fabulous Brehm CA/Napa/Washington/Oregon grapes and juice. Local Virginia vineyards seldom have enough to share with lowly amatuers. [WO]

Online Ordering

Beer, Beer, and More Beer: A California supplier I have dealt with occasionally. Excellent Selection, fast shipping, sometimes a little pricey. [JT]

Strange Brew: I haven't dealt with these guys a lot, but I have had a good experience every time I have. [JT]

Listermann: One of my favorite suppliers. [DT]

Austing Homebrew Supply: My other favorite supplier. [DT]

Northern Brewer: I've never used them as a supplier, but I do like their forum. [JT]

Homebrewsupply.com: I stopped using them when they got three orders in a row substantially wrong or damaged in shipping (or both!) [JT]

UK Brewing Supplies, Ltd.: For British handpumps and other sundries. [DT]

Northern Brewer: Probably the best malt selection on the web. [DT]
